Sensors

Sensors can be found in many types of control systems. They measure the surrounding physical conditions such as humidity, light, sound, temperature, and more. In HVAC systems, sensors contribute to the functioning and maintenance of the entire system.

More About Sensors

Why do HVAC systems need sensors?

As HVAC systems become more advanced, sensors become an common component. They provide feedback to the central control panel of the HVAC system. Using these sensors, building maintenance crews can check if the HVAC system is operating at optimum levels and is energy efficient.

How do sensors work?

The answer varies depending on the type of sensors you use. For example, there are motion sensors, sound sensors, pressure sensors, temperature sensors, smoke sensors, and many more. Different sensors are made from different materials, but most have a detecting portion and an output or display portion.

What should you look for in a sensor?

The most important quality for sensors is accuracy and consistency. These two qualities ensure your sensor is accurate. Other qualities to look for in a sensor include affordability, low installation costs, and low maintenance costs.

Additionally, all sensors are bound to have some errors. That is why every sesnsor has a Total Error Band, or TEB. This number measures the accuracy of the sensor by recording the total number of errors. Having a lower TEB number means the sensor is more accurate and does not require much calibration to work.
